Frances Perkins was the first woman to be appointed to the US cabinet. She served as Secretary of Labour, a position she held during the whole of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s term (1933-1945).
Perkins was a workers rights advocate who helped execute the New Deal, which included the Social Security Act and the Fair Labor Standards Act.
